District Officers (DOs) stationed in Rotuma will now benefit from upgraded government quarters, following the completion of renovation works by the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management.

The project aims to improve living standards and enhance service delivery capacity for government officials posted to one of Fiji’s most remote island communities.

The upgraded accommodation is part of a broader initiative to strengthen government infrastructure in isolated areas. A total investment of approximately $0.5 million has been allocated under the Coalition Government to upgrade staff housing in Rotuma and Nadarivatu.

The improved living conditions are expected to directly support DOs in their responsibilities, including coordination of disaster response, delivery of public services, and ongoing community development work.

The Ministry noted that the Prime Minister will travel to Rotuma this week to officially commission the new quarters for the DO Rotuma.

“These officers play a vital role on the ground, and ensuring they are well supported is essential to maintaining an effective government presence in outer island communities,” said the Ministry in a statement.
