The Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management has completed upgrades to the government quarters for District Officers (DOs) stationed in Nadarivatu – one of Fiji’s most remote and geographically challenging locations.
The improvements are part of the Ministry’s broader initiative to enhance government infrastructure in rural and maritime areas, with the goal of supporting frontline public servants and strengthening service delivery in underserved communities.
The upgraded quarters aim to improve the living and working conditions for officers who play a critical role in coordinating government services and disaster response efforts. Officials say the investment will allow officers to perform their duties more effectively while ensuring their wellbeing in isolated environments.
The upgrades in Nadarivatu and Rotuma were funded through a combined $0.5 million allocation by the Coalition Government in the current financial year.
In a continued commitment to rural development, the Ministry is also progressing similar projects in the Northern and Eastern Divisions in partnership with contractors to further improve housing for civil servants across the country.
