Graham Keith Haynes has been recognised for more than four decades of work in Fiji’s agriculture sector, earning three major awards at the 2026 National Agriculture Show in Labasa.

Haynes, who operates Maravu Estate in Savusavu, was named Beef Farmer of the Year, Livestock Farmer of the Year and Northern Farmer of the Year.

His 365-acre farm has 250 head of cattle and serves as the base for Maravu Meats, a slaughterhouse and butcher shop in Savusavu that processes and packages beef locally.

By combining cattle production with processing and retail, Haynes has developed a business model that keeps more of the value within the local community while creating employment and providing locally produced beef to consumers.

Haynes has spent 43 years in farming and credits careful record-keeping, financial planning and responsible resource management as important parts of his success.

He is now looking to further improve pasture quality with technical assistance and introduce new grass varieties to increase productivity.

Over the years, Haynes has also expanded his herd and invested in farm infrastructure despite challenges including changing markets, weather conditions and limited resources.

He says the success of Maravu Estate and Maravu Meats has been a collective effort, recognising the contribution of his family and workers to the growth of the business.
