The Ministry of Health and Medical Services is actively consulting its personnel in the Western Division as part of a comprehensive review of health-related legislation aimed at modernizing Fiji’s healthcare framework.

Chief Medical Advisor Dr. Luisa Cikamatana led consultations this week, encouraging staff to read and understand existing laws before making submissions.

She emphasized that the review process is an opportunity for health workers to reflect on their roles and contribute meaningfully to shaping legislation that aligns with today’s healthcare challenges.

Consultations are currently being held at Vidilo House in Lautoka and will continue tomorrow, following earlier sessions in Labasa.

Dr. Cikamatana urged health workers to send submissions via email to [email protected].

The review includes the Public Health Act of 1935, Nursing Act, Burial and Cremation Act of 1911, and the Quarantine Act of 1965, with the aim of improving effectiveness and ensuring the laws meet modern needs.

After internal consultations, the updated legislation will be shared with other government bodies, partners, and the public for wider feedback.
