The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) has officially launched Infantry Week 2026, with an opening parade held at Albert Park in Suva on Monday.

The event, organised by the Third Battalion Fiji Infantry Regiment, brought together military personnel and defence partners to begin a week of activities recognising the service, heritage and enduring role of the infantry.

Opening the celebrations, Chief of Staff Land Force Command Colonel Penioni Naliva said this year’s theme, “We Are All Infantiers,” reflects the shared infantry roots that connect all members of the RFMF, regardless of their rank, role or unit.

Colonel Naliva said infantry soldiers continue to play a vital role in maintaining military readiness, particularly in an increasingly complex security environment where adaptability and resilience remain essential.

He noted that the theme serves as a reminder of the discipline, commitment and values that underpin military service, while reinforcing the infantry’s importance in meeting operational demands both within Fiji and overseas.

Throughout the week, personnel will participate in a range of activities including route marches, field exercises, community engagement programmes and engagements with defence partners.

The activities are aimed at enhancing operational readiness, strengthening teamwork and building unit cohesion.

Colonel Naliva also acknowledged the professionalism displayed by troops during recent training exercises, including Exercise Guadalcanal, and said the upcoming whole-of-government Exercise Bougainville would provide another opportunity to test preparedness and cooperation among participating agencies.

With Infantry Day observed annually on 23 June, he said the occasion offers a time to honour serving and former infantry soldiers while remembering those who lost their lives in service to the nation.

Personnel were encouraged to draw inspiration from the legacy of Corporal Sefanaia Sukanaivalu VC, whose courage and sacrifice continue to represent the highest standards of military service.

Infantry Week 2026 will feature a series of military, community and commemorative events designed to strengthen partnerships, foster esprit de corps and recognise the infantry’s contribution to national security and regional stability.
