Residents of the greater Nadi area, including members of the Nadi Chamber of Commerce, had the opportunity to take part in the public consultation on the proposed rezoning of part of Wailoaloa Beach.
This follows an application by Wailoaloa Palms Pte Ltd to rezone part of the beach from Open Space Reserve on Freehold land to Special Use for tourism purposes.
During the public consultation, key points highlighted included the need for a contingency plan should the redevelopment be denied, the necessity of a geotechnical survey, and the potential impact on the marine ecosystem.
Concerned residents also expressed their frustration over the possibility of restricted public access.
Planning Consultant for Wailoaloa Palms Pte Ltd, Jackie Hughes, confirmed that there will be no restriction on access to the beach.
The Nadi Town Council will compile a report for consideration by the Department of Town and Country Planning.
