ODPP launches Basic Prosecution Course for Statutory Regulators

Statutory Regulators are once again called upon to familiarise themselves with their respective legislation in order to enforce the rules and regulations to its full extent.

The Acting Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, Meli Vosawale in launching the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions four-week Basic Prosecution Course for Statutory regulators reminded officers to be up-to-date with their relevant ministries and government department’s legislation and amendments.

Thirty officers from the Ministry of Lands, the Ministry of Fisheries and Forestry, the Ministry of Employment, the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji and the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service are attending the prosecution course at the Ministry of Civil Service Training Centre, Nasese, Suva.

The ODPP continues to assist government ministries and departments with series of training throughout the year as well as provide legal advice on the range of possible charges and evidence required in prosecuting infringements under their own specific legislation.
