Pacific Specialist Healthcare has started its Neurological surgery services at its PSH Nadi hospital in Legalega, Nadi this month.
The 100-bed multi-specialty private hospital performed its first Neuro-Spine surgery last week, only a week after having performed its first brain surgery for a patient suffering from a brain tumor.
PSH is making headways in providing advanced specialty surgical services to the people of the South Pacific via its purpose-built PSH Nadi facility.
Since its opening in July, PSH has already performed a number of advanced surgeries, diagnostics, and private birthing.
Speaking after the first spinal case for PSH Nadi, locum Neurosurgeon Dr. Alan Biribo says PSH, has been providing Neurological operations for quite a few years out of the Suva branch.
The cases carried out were crucial to ensure the patients are able to live a healthy and fulfilling life post-surgery.
Surgery is usually followed by adequate rehabilitation or physical therapy to maximise recovery and function.
Neurological problems are quite common in Fiji and the region as people tend to present very late to the hospital.
Dr. Biribo says that sometimes symptoms like headaches are ignored, however, those headaches can be signs of major Neurological conditions.
