A three-part web discussion series themed ‘ResiliArt Oceania Weaving webinars’ focusing on the creative and cultural industries and stakeholders will start tomorrow and go through to next week., responding to the global launch of the UNESCO ResiliArt Movement.  

ResiliArt is a global movement initiated by UNESCO launched in Paris in April 2020 on World Art Day that aims to strengthen the resilience of artists and cultural professionals in the face of the enormous challenges posed by the global pandemic COVID-19.

The Pacific ResiliArt debates are an online series of discussions and exchanges with key industry professionals, established and emerging artists as well as development partners and governments that identify how to best support and benefit from arts and culture during these challenging times.

The ‘ResiliArt Oceania Weaving’ webinar series allows a sharing of experiences at the regional level – a talanoa between artists through a regional exchange and learning.

Another objective of the webinars is to provide outcomes based on Pacific Island artists’ assessment of the specific needs, challenges and successes of the CCIs sector. 

The webinar series are 90 minute discussions with panelists expanding on support mechanisms within the cultural and creative industries. Panelists include artists, art collectors, cultural workers, representatives from government and development partners, civil society and private sector will be deliberating on the following themes: 

• ResiliArt Oceania Weaving Webinar 1: The value of associations: leadership, artist welfare, social, cultural and economic well-being, Wednesday March 23.

• ResiliArt Oceania Weaving Webinar 2: Arts and culture: telling our stories effectively, Tuesday, March 29.

• ResiliArt Oceania Weaving Webinar 3: Education and training in the arts sector Wednesday, March 30.

The ResiliArt Oceania Weaving webinars is coordinated by Torque Atelier, in partnership with UNESCO Office for Pacific States, in the frame of the Joint project entitled “Inclusive Economic Recovery through Sustainable Enterprises in the Informal Economies of Fiji, Palau, Tonga and Vanuatu” funded by the UN Secretary General’s Multi Partner Trust Fund (MPTF) for COVID-19 recovery.

The discussion expand on support mechanisms within the cultural and creative industries as a part of these informal economies.
