Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has officially handed over a $198,000 excavator to the Navuso Agricultural Technical Institute (NATI), fulfilling a commitment made at the Rewa Provincial Council meeting in July 2024.
Speaking at the handover event, Prime Minister Rabuka emphasized the importance of modern equipment in boosting agricultural productivity and reducing Fiji’s dependence on imports.
“Agriculture remains central to building economic and food security. This excavator will allow students to improve land preparation and production practices,” he said.
The machinery will be used for land clearing, drainage, terracing, pond construction, and other critical tasks in modern farming.
The Prime Minister also encouraged staff to maintain records to measure the impact of the excavator on productivity and to ensure students gain hands-on experience.
Head of NATI, Mr. Uraia Waibuta, thanked the government for its support, noting that the machine will enhance both farm operations and student training.
The ceremony also included a moment of silence to honor the late Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Vatimi Rayalu, recognized as a strong supporter of the institute.
