The Fiji Police Force has formally commenced an investigation into the findings of the Commission of Inquiry (COI) Final Report on the appointment of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) Commissioner. This follows an official referral received from the President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, on the afternoon of 17 June 2025.

The letter of referral, addressed to both the Fiji Police Force and FICAC, directs both agencies to examine the contents of the COI Final Report, including possible misconduct by persons of interest identified within the report. Where evidence supports criminal wrongdoing, prosecution proceedings may be initiated.

Earlier today (18 June 2025), Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu met with FICAC Acting Commissioner Ms. Lavi Rokoika, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Crime Mesake Waqa, and Director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Loraini Seru to coordinate the scope of the investigation. The meeting focused on delineating the responsibilities of both agencies to prevent overlap and ensure an efficient investigative process.

Commissioner Tudravu reaffirmed the police force’s commitment to conducting a thorough and independent inquiry, led by senior CID investigators.

“Our investigators are tasked to carry out a complete and impartial probe into the matters raised by the COI report, ensuring accountability and the integrity of this important process,” Tudravu said in a statement.

The COI report, containing critical findings and recommendations on the appointment process of the FICAC Commissioner, was officially handed to the President earlier this month.

The investigation marks a pivotal step in addressing governance concerns and restoring public confidence in key national institutions.
