Police have confirmed that a report has been launched, in regards to the “60 Minutes” Australia show, which was filmed in Fiji in late March this year.

Fiji One News has been informed that the reporter – Nick McKenzie, obtained a ‘visitor visa’ to enter the country, but went straight to work without accessing a ‘work visa’.

The Immigration Minister Pio Tikoduadua, who was also featured in the show, says as media personnel, their work needs to comply with the law.

Complaints have been made about the action of the 60 Minutes Australia show and how they carried out their interviews in Fiji during their latest March documentary.

“When they’re allowed to come here they’re allow to come in here as the media, they come here to report,” said Tikoduadua

He added that “How they do their work needs to comply with the law” and that complaints have been lodged and police are currently investigating .

The documentary, raised serious allegations against local Fijian-Chinese businessman Fugang Zhao, who is supposedly the owner of Yu-Lae Hotel.
that

Zhao’s spokesperson says it is unfortunate that the reporter illegally breached their Visa in order to accuse someone else of doing illegal things, without evidence.

Tikoduadua says, there is a special way of doing things and the media company is expected to know better.

“I think the media has got their own special way of doing things, but they have to confine themselves according to the law because people also have rights you cannot just go and allege anything somebody said oh this is what w believe you are doing.”

The Minister added that “there’s a proper way to do things and the law in that regard needs to be followed and media needs to follow that too.”

When questioned if this is an attempt to damage Chinese cooperation with Fiji, Tikoduadua says the relationship is strong.

“I’ve met with the Chinese ambassador and Embassy officials, as far as I’m concerned he has not tarnished anything, we enjoy our diplomatic relationships as it were.”

Investigations into the complaint is currently ongoing.
