The Fiji Police Force is urging vigilance as heavy rain and flooding affect parts of the country this Christmas.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu has said that water levels are rising and parents should ensure their children avoid flooded areas.
He stressed the importance of safety, citing past incidents where parents were held responsible.
“The Weather Office has issued the advisory for the next few days and we are already receiving reports of flooding in some areas. We are calling on all parents to keep their children away from flooded waters,” said ACP Driu.
Police will monitor flooded areas throughout the festive season, as they have a goal to prevent as many accidents as possible.
“Police will be out there to monitor the situation on the ground and they will also be checking on flooded areas. Its Christmas eve and we don’t want any unfortunate incident to happen.”
ACP Driu called for community cooperation to ensure everyone’s safety during Christmas.
