Christopher Pryde has been reinstated as the Director of Public Prosecution.

The Tribunal, chaired by Justice Anare Tuilevuka, investigated allegations of misbehaviour against Director of Public Prosecutions Christopher Pryde.

It found that the two allegations were not substantiated and unanimously concluded that Pryde should not be removed from office.

The Tribunal provided important jurisprudence on the definition of ‘misbehaviour’, which is not defined in Fiji’s Constitution.

This decision sets a precedent for future cases involving complaints against judicial and quasi-judicial officers.

The Tribunal has recommended that the Judicial Services Commission develop policies to guide the evaluation of complaints against such officers, ensuring transparency and consistency.

In light of these findings, President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu decided to revoke Pryde’s suspension, restore his employment agreement and repay his unpaid salary and benefits.

He commended the Tribunal Chairman and Members for their Report and excellent service to the nation.

He adds their Final Report contributes important jurisprudence for the first time, on the definition of “misbehaviour” which is not defined in the Constitution.

Pryde is to return to his duties and report to the JSC for the handover of official properties.

These actions align with the President’s implementation of the Tribunal’s recommendations and are in accordance with section 112(6) of the Constitution.

The report has also been made public.
