To mark its 90th anniversary, Punjas Group has launched a powerful sustainability initiative by planting 9,000 mangrove seedlings along Wailoaloa Beach, in partnership with the Ministry of Forestry. The initiative aims to restore coastal ecosystems, protect against erosion, and reinforce Punjas’ longstanding commitment to environmental stewardship.

The mangrove planting, which took place this morning, brought together staff from across the Punjas Group, supported by forestry experts who provided technical assistance and coordination.

Mr. Rajesh Punja, Managing Director of Punjas Group, said the event was more than a symbolic gesture; it was a heartfelt expression of gratitude.

“As we mark 90 years, we wanted to do something meaningful that gives back to the land and people who have been part of our journey. Mangroves protect our shores and support life. It’s a small step, but one that carries a lot of heart.”

He added that sustainability has always been a part of Punjas’ values:

“This initiative means a lot to us. The Punjas family has always believed in building for the long term- whether it’s in business or for our environment. Planting these mangroves is a way of saying thank you to Fiji and doing our part for the next generation.”

The initiative highlights the company’s holistic approach to corporate responsibility, going beyond products and profits to actively support climate resilience and community wellbeing.

The Ministry of Forestry commended the partnership, noting that public-private collaboration is vital to achieving national tree-planting targets and preserving biodiversity.

This mangrove restoration effort is part of a series of activities organised throughout 2025 to commemorate 90 years of Punjas as a trusted name in Fijian homes and across the Pacific.
