Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has reiterated Fiji’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding relationship with Solomon Islands, describing the partnership as one founded on shared history, common values and regional unity.
Speaking during a state dinner held at Suva’s Grand Pacific Hotel in honour of Solomon Islands Prime Minister Matthew Wale, Rabuka said the close ties between the two Pacific nations have been nurtured over generations and continue to play an important role in regional cooperation.
He noted that Fiji and Solomon Islands have stood together through different chapters of their shared history, creating a bond that extends beyond geographical boundaries.
Rabuka also highlighted the growing challenges facing the international community, pointing to ongoing conflicts in Europe and the Middle East that continue to place economic pressures on governments while reshaping the global security landscape.
He said Fiji remains committed to promoting peace and upholding the international rules-based order, while strengthening bilateral and regional partnerships aimed at improving resilience and supporting economic stability across the Pacific.
Also attending the official dinner was the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Tonga, Lord Fakafanua.
Rabuka reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to maintaining a strong and forward-looking partnership with Tonga, expressing confidence that outstanding bilateral matters would continue to be addressed through mutual respect and cooperation.
He concluded by encouraging Pacific leaders to build on their shared history as they work towards a future anchored in Melanesian solidarity, Pacific regionalism and the collective vision of a Blue Pacific Ocean of Peace.
