Former parliamentarian Simione Rasova’s case, brought by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption, has been adjourned to the 1st of September.

The matter was called before Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne this morning, as Magistrate Joseph Daurewa was not sitting.

Rasova is charged with one count of giving false information to a public servant and one count of obtaining a financial advantage.

It is alleged that on February 14, 2019, Rasova provided false information to the then Acting Secretary-General to Parliament by claiming that his permanent place of residence was in Nasenivolau, Nabouwalu Village, Ono, Kadavu, knowing the information to be false.

The second charge relates to allegations that between July 1, 2019, and April 20, 2020, Rasova submitted allowance claims to Parliament and obtained a financial advantage of $21,350.

FICAC alleges Rasova was not permanently residing at the Kadavu address and was therefore ineligible for the payments under the Parliamentary Remuneration Act 2014

In this matter, a new retrial date has been set from the 12th to the 16th of October.
The matter will return to court before Magistrate Daurewa on the 1st of September.
