The University of the South Pacific (USP) is hosting a major three-day gathering focused on ocean education and sustainability, as the Regional Conference on Advancing Ocean Learning officially opened today at the university’s Lower Campus.

The event has drawn participants from across the Pacific, including educators, researchers, government officials, and development partners, all united in their mission to promote ocean literacy and support sustainable marine development across the region.

In his keynote address, Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro stressed the central role of education in safeguarding the Pacific Ocean and shaping a resilient Blue Pacific future.

He noted that the ocean is not only a vital ecological system but also a cornerstone of Pacific identity, culture, and economic livelihoods.

The Minister also reiterated the government’s support for collaborative efforts, including the Pacific-European Union Marine Partnership (PEUMP), and emphasized the importance of continued investment in marine science education, training, and research.

The conference aims to enhance regional cooperation in ocean learning, while spotlighting innovations in marine policy and community engagement.
