South Korea’s Constitutional Court held oral arguments on Thursday in the trial of impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol, who faces charges of violating his constitutional duty and leading an insurrection.
The trial, which began on December 27, is reviewing an impeachment motion accusing Yoon of imposing martial law without justifiable grounds.
Three witnesses, including National Intelligence Service Director Cho Tae-yong, are expected to testify during Thursday’s hearing.
President Yoon, who was arrested last month, remains in custody at a detention center while prosecutors have separately indicted him on insurrection charges.
The court’s decision will determine whether Yoon is officially ousted from office or has his powers restored.
