Break the culture of silence and speak out against reckless driving behaviours, says Acting Land Transport Authority chief executive office Irimaia Rokosawa.

He said this a press statement where the LTA announced it would beef up operations during the 2024 Coca Cola Games.

With the maritime athletics zone meet underway today at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva and Fiji Finals scheduled from May 2-4, heightened movement leading to and around the games venue is expected.

LTA Acting Chief Executive Officer Irimaia Rokosawa said the Authority recognised the significance of this event for both participants and spectators alike.

However, he said safety on Fiji’s roads must remain paramount during this period of increased activity.

“Passengers travelling in both private and public transport vehicles are urged to break the culture of silence and speak out against reckless driving behaviours,” Mr Rokosawa said.

“Whether it’s drivers speeding, ignoring traffic laws, or engaging in dangerous manoeuvres, passengers are encouraged to voice their concerns if they feel their lives are at risk due to bad driving behaviour.

“In whichever region you are travelling from to the games venue, if you witness irresponsible driving behaviours, reach out to our officers directly to report the driver or unruly passenger behaviour.”

Members of the public can contact the Authority to report these reckless behaviours via regional managers – West on 9989585, Central Eastern on 9905478 or North on 9983732. Alternatively, the public can reach out to police on 919 or 917.
