The Minister for Women, Children, and Poverty Alleviation, Honorable Lynda Tabuya was the Chief Guest at the opening of the Pacific Feminist Community of Practice Regional Workshop at the Dhive Community Center (DIVA) headquarters in Nadi last night(16/05/2023).
The Pacific Feminist Community of Practice has memberships from 22 Pacific island states and territories that work at the intersection of many aspects of human rights and justice movements – on sexual and reproductive health and rights, climate justice, land health, and rights, ocean health and rights, development and economic justice,
Whilst delivering her opening address, Hon. Tabuya stated that “the Pacific Feminist Community of Practice has exemplified the essence of solidarity, fostering active shared work and knowledge and networking across our region”.
Whilst raising her concerns, Hon. Tabuya noted that “It is alarming that gender inequality remains deeply rooted in our societies, with a high prevalence of gender-based violence and low representation of women in politics in the Pacific region”.
Hon. Tabuya further stated that “It is in this context, that we reflect upon our collective challenges, shared journey, knowledge platforms, and the transformative power of the feminist movement and power of coalition building”.
In her closing remarks, Hon. Tabuya affirmed her commitment to be a staunch advocate for gender equality and amplifying the voices of all women and girls.
