A transformative public safety initiative was launched today as Telecom Fiji and the Fiji Police Force formalised their partnership to roll out the “Safe City Project” for the Suva-Nausori corridor.

The agreement, signed on May 21, 2025, will see Telecom Fiji deliver high-speed fibre-optic connectivity and a robust network of CCTV cameras throughout the region.

The live surveillance feeds will be monitored at the Fiji Police Command Centre housed at the Central Police Station in Suva.

The initiative is designed to enhance crime prevention, enable faster police response, and strengthen public confidence in law enforcement through the integration of smart surveillance systems.

Telecom Fiji CEO Charles Goundar described the project as a pivotal step towards smarter, safer cities, stating, “This partnership is about building secure communities through innovation and technology.”

Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu highlighted how the system will support modern policing efforts. “Real-time monitoring gives us the edge to deter and act swiftly against criminal activity,” he said.

The Safe City model, starting with Suva to Nausori, is expected to be rolled out across other major centres, forming the backbone of a future nationwide safety network.
