A significant milestone for telecommunications was marked today by Telecom Fiji with the groundbreaking ceremony of Phase 2 of its Fibre Optics Northern Project in Seaqaqa.

Under the project, underground fibre optic cables will extend to Savusavu, providing high-capacity bandwidth via the submarine cable which will give reliable, high-speed, low-latency data links to Seaqaqa customers.

“We are thrilled to mark this significant milestone of this project with the commencement of phase two,” said Telecom Fiji chief executive officer, Charles Goundar.

“The expansion emphasizes our dedication to providing robust and reliable connectivity to communities across Fiji. We are grateful for the support of our partners and stakeholders as we continue to advance our mission of building a more connected future for all.”

Commissioner Northern Uraia Rainima lauded the initiative.

“The extension of fibre optic cables between Seaqaqa and Savusavu is a commendable initiative that will greatly benefit the Northern region,” he said.

“Enhanced connectivity is essential for driving economic growth, fostering innovation, and improving access to essential services. I applaud Telecom Fiji for their commitment to bridging the digital divide and look forward to the positive impact this project will have on our communities.”
