Prime Minister Hu’akavameiliku Siaosi Sovaleni of Tonga recently met with Tang Zhiwen from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nuku’alofa to discuss avenues for enhancing bilateral relations between the two nations.
According to reports from Matangi Tonga, Tang Zhiwen serves as the deputy director-general of the Department of North American and Oceania Affairs within China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
His portfolio includes overseeing bilateral relations between China and countries such as Australia, New Zealand, and Pacific Islands nations.
During the meeting, Hu’akavameiliku’s office stated that both parties explored areas of mutual interest aimed at strengthening the friendly relations between China and Tonga.
They also exchanged views on issues of common concern, reflecting the ongoing dialogue between the two nations.
