The Pacific’s Fastest Man has finally decided to hang his spikes.

Sprint king, Banuve Tabakaucoro is calling it a day from the track after an illustrious 20-year athletics career.

The Bau Bullet competed at many international events, including one Olympic Games, five World Championships, three Pacific Games, and eight Oceania Championships.

He ruled the tracks in Fiji and the Pacific since taking out 100m gold medal in New Caledonia in 2011.

The 30-year-old, in an exclusive interview with Fiji One, announced that he is retiring.

“This decision was definitely a hard one but I have been thinking like the past year and even after the mini games last year, I had discussion with my wife and dad wanting to step out.”

“Its sad but you know i have finally decided to retire and I applaud them for respecting my decision.”

Banuve says it is time to move on and move on to better things.

The former Marist Brothers High School student, nicknamed “Bau Bullet” is putting an end to a sporting career that began to take off at the tender age of nine at Stella Maris Primary School.

Barnes still holds the Pacific Games and the National records in the 100 meters and 200 meters.

He thanked his family, coaches and teammates for their support, and for making him what he is today.

The 2013 Sportsman of the Year, has represented Fiji in three Pacific Games, one Olympic Games and five World Championships and many other international events.

He wants to see other athletes step up and dominate the tracks.

Once in the sport, it runs in the blood…although he is retiring from the sport he loved the most, he will still be mentoring the athletes whenever his services are required.
