Women, Children and Social Protection Minister Lynda Tabuya and European Union Ambassador to the Pacific Barbara Plinkert held bilateral talks yesterday on work being undertaken to address gender-based violence, improving the participation of women in politics and leadership, and Fiji’s National Action Plan.
The discussions happened during a courtesy visit by Ms Plinkert and her team to Ms Tabuya where the minister thanked the ambassador for the invaluable support received from the EU towards the work undertaken by the Ministry to advance progress in the achievement of SDG 5 – Gender Equality in Fiji.
The meeting addressed matters of mutual interest, and highlighted various interests shared between the EU and the Ministry under the 4 priority areas of human rights and gender, economic development, climate change, and human development.
Ms Plinkert also briefed Ms Tabuya on her areas of responsibility in the region which encompassed 13 Pacific Island countries, and she said priority during her tenure was to strengthen all dimensions of the multifaceted relationship between the EU and the Pacific.
