Heavy rain warning is now in force for the interior, southern and eastern parts of Viti Levu, the northern division, Kadavu, nearby smaller islands and the Lau and Lomaiviti groups.
A weak trough of low pressure, along with associated cloud and showers is affecting the southern parts of Fiji and is anticipated to intensify and gradually move north, affecting the rest of the country from tomorrow until Saturday.
Occasional rain, heavy at times and a few thunderstorms are likely to develop over the Northern, Eastern, and Central Divisions, northwestern Viti Levu (Ba-Tavua-Ra), and southwestern Viti Levu (Sigatoka/Coral Coast) from tomorrow, resulting in a Heavy Rain Alert for these areas. Showers, heavy at times and isolated thunderstorms are forecasted to develop elsewhere from later tomorrow.
Local heavy falls may lead to flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas, including those not under the Heavy Rain Alert and advised motorists to expect poor visibility on the road with an increased risk of landslides due to heavy rain.
The likelihood of strong winds of up to 45km/hr developing over the land areas of Yasawa, Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, and Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, from tomorrow.
For mariners, a Strong Wind Warning is in force for all Fiji Waters, with southeast winds of 20-30 knots expected to develop over the waters from tomorrow, along with rough seas and moderate southeasterly swells.
