The Fiji SHARE Project, launched in 2024 with a significant investment of €1.2 million from the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), is a collaborative initiative aimed at enhancing the technical capabilities of the Fiji National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL).
This important venture, which focuses on surveillance of human arboviruses in the Pacific, was established through a partnership between the Institut Louis Malardé (ILM) of French Polynesia and the Fiji Centre for Disease Control (FCDC).
Today a distinguished delegation led by Taivini Teai, Minister for Agriculture, Marine Resources, and the Environment of French Polynesia, alongside Julie Le Saos, French Ambassador to Fiji, visited FCDC to receive updates on the project’s progress.
They were warmly welcomed by Dr. Jemesa Tudravu, Permanent Secretary for Health and Medical Services, and other senior health officials, including Dr. Luisa Cikamatana and Dr. Daniel Faktaufon. The delegation was given an in-depth briefing and guided through a tour of the FCDC facility, witnessing firsthand the ongoing efforts to enhance public health infrastructure in Fiji.
The Fiji SHARE Project, which stands for Surveillance of Human Arboviruses at Risk of Causing Epidemics in the Pacific, plays a crucial role in strengthening the region’s ability to combat potential epidemics.
