The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) today marked the successful conclusion of the United Nations Military Observer Course (UNMOC), a two-week intensive peacekeeping training program held at Blackrock Camp in Nadi.

Facilitated by the Australian Defence Force and supported by the Peace Operations Training Centre (POTC), the course brought together 24 participants from the RFMF, New Zealand Defence Force, Papua New Guinea Defence Force, and His Majesty’s Armed Forces of Tonga.

The training focused on equipping future UN peacekeepers with the skills required for conflict resolution, international law, and effective monitoring and reporting in volatile environments.

Officiating the graduation ceremony, RFMF Chief of Staff Brigadier General Sapenafa Motufaga commended the participants for their dedication and acknowledged the strength of regional cooperation that enriched the learning experience.

“Your shared knowledge and diverse perspectives have strengthened our collective readiness for international peacekeeping duties,” Brig-Gen Motufaga said, adding that UN military observers are not only tasked with observation but also play a vital role in building trust and facilitating dialogue in conflict-affected areas.

He also extended his gratitude to the instructors from POTC for their guidance throughout the course and urged graduates to uphold the spirit of collaboration and professionalism as they prepare for future deployments.
