Construction has commenced on a $1.3 million suspension bridge in Lomanikoro, Bua, which is expected to benefit more than 800 residents from surrounding villages including Dalomo, Bua Lomanikoro, Tiliva, and other nearby communities.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Minister for Public Works, Transport and Meteorological Services, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, highlighted the significance of the project, saying the bridge represents not only physical infrastructure but also hope and progress for rural communities.

“This bridge is more than just steel and concrete – it is a symbol of connection and opportunity for the people who will rely on it,” he said.

The first phase of construction, which includes building towers on either side of the river, is expected to finish by July 2025. The second and final phase will start in August, with completion targeted for December.

The bridge will improve access to markets, schools, health services, and essential amenities for the communities it serves.
