Cabinet has approved a series of important decisions that will support the preparation and fairness of the upcoming Local Government Elections in 2026.
One of the major steps is the publication of new By laws that officially bring iTaukei villages inside municipal boundaries. This means that people living in villages located within municipalities, including those within two kilometres of the boundary, will now have the right to take part in local elections.
Cabinet has also endorsed the Orders that set out how these incorporated villages fit into their municipal ward areas. This includes the Nadi Town Wards Extension Order 2025, which outlines adjustments to ward boundaries for the Nadi municipality.
All By laws and Orders will be gazetted this month in November 2025. These changes are part of wider efforts to improve representation, make participation more inclusive, and ensure local communities have a stronger voice in municipal decision making.
Stronger representation. Inclusive participation. Empowered communities.
