Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says allegations surrounding the leadership of the Fiji Sports Council will be addressed through due process, as questions continue over governance and recent appointments within statutory bodies.

Rabuka was questioned about various allegations against the former Executive Chairman and current Chief Executive Officer of the Fiji Sports Council, Gilbert Vakalalabure.

The concerns raised centre on alleged conflicts of interest and claims that certain decisions were made without the approval of the Board.

Responding to the queries, the Prime Minister said such matters would be dealt with in an audit report.

“That would come up in an audit report,” Rabuka stated, adding that the issue had not been formally brought to him by the Minister for Sports.

When questioned on what was the outcome of his meeting with the Minister for Sports Jese Saukuru, he said, they will be meeting later today.

In a separate matter, the Prime Minister was also questioned about the recent appointment of the Chairperson of the Fiji Higher Education Commission.

Government had earlier removed Steve Chand as Chairperson of the Commission, with Ms Rokobua Naiyaga appointed to the role effective February 17, 2026.

The appointment was made by Aseri Radrodro, Minister for Education, in consultation with the Prime Minister.

When asked whether he was aware of the appointment, Rabuka clarified: “The first one yes, not this one. This one is according to the Minister.”
