The Colonial War Memorial Hospital’s ageing water and sewerage system is currently undergoing a major upgrade as part of support from the Australian Government.
Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services, Penioni Ravunawa highlights that the upgrade will focus on improving the portable water and maternity sewer systems at the old CWM Hospital building.
“In regard to the portable water and maternity sewer upgrade at CWM Hospital, this is part of the Australian government budget support to improve the water system at the old CWM Hospital adjacent to the maternity unit” Ravunawa said.
Ravunawa emphasizes the old west wing of the hospital is now more than 100 years old and the water pipes and sewer lines are in need of replacement.
“As you know, the old west wing of the CWM is over 100 years old now. And the water piping and the line that is running within that building is quite old and it is time that we need to change that to improve the water supply and also the sewerage system from the old Colonial War Memorial Hospital” he highlighted.
He says the work will also improve water supply to the labour and maternity wards located next to the old hospital wing.
“And at the same time, we are improving the water supply into the labour ward, the maternity ward at the CWM Hospital as the buildings are just adjacent to each other” he added.
