The Republic of Fiji Military Forces has confirmed the discovery of an unregistered pistol magazine containing 11 live 9mm rounds near the Nasinu Police Station in the Makoi area.

According to the RFMF, the ammunition was found at approximately 5am yesterday by a member of the public near a bus stop adjacent to the police station. The individual immediately alerted military personnel stationed in Nasinu.

Preliminary assessments carried out by the RFMF confirmed that the magazine and ammunition are not part of the military’s official inventory.

The recovered items have since been secured and remain in RFMF custody while investigations continue.

The investigation is being conducted jointly by the RFMF and the Fiji Police Force to determine the origin of the ammunition and the circumstances surrounding its discovery.

Commander RFMF Major-General Ro Jone Kalouniwai is urging members of the public not to handle suspicious items, including weapons or ammunition, and to report them immediately to the nearest police station or RFMF camp.

Authorities are also requesting public assistance and cooperation in providing any information that may assist ongoing investigations.
