Fiji is taking proactive steps to prepare for the long-term impacts of climate change following Cabinet’s endorsement of a National Resettlement Taskforce.

The Taskforce will bring together Government agencies to develop policies and plans that will help Fiji respond to climate-related challenges, including the possible need for future community relocation and resettlement within the Pacific region.

Its work will focus on important areas such as land, governance, financing, legal frameworks, and community engagement, ensuring that any future decisions are guided by dignity, consent, cultural protection, and the wellbeing of affected communities.

As climate change and rising sea levels continue to threaten many low-lying Pacific islands, Fiji remains committed to strengthening its preparedness while contributing to regional solutions that are practical, sustainable, and people-centered.

The initiative reinforces Fiji’s leadership in climate action and resilience planning, helping ensure that communities are supported and protected for generations to come.
