Repair works on the 375mm trunk main burst at Tamavua-i-Wai have been significantly delayed due to extremely challenging ground conditions at the worksite.

The Water Authority of Fiji says the damaged pipe is located approximately three metres below ground. A high water table and heavy, waterlogged ground have left the surrounding soil very loose and prone to constant collapse, making safe access to the pipe extremely difficult.

To work safely under these conditions, WAF crews worked through most of the night widening and stabilising the trench to create safe access to the pipe for the repair team. The working environment has been extremely compromised, and the safety of our teams on site remains our priority.

WAF had earlier advised that this repair would be completed by yesterday evening.

Due to the conditions described above, completion has been significantly delayed, and repairs are now expected to be completed by midday today.

WAF apologised to all affected customers for the extended disruption and the inconvenience caused.

In the meantime, water carting continues, with priority to schools, health facilities and other essential services, along with the affected Lami corridor.

Customers requiring water carting may contact WAF’s National Contact Centre on shortcode 5777 (all networks) or (679) 334 6777.
