The trial against former Deputy Prime Minister and Member of Parliament, Manoa Kamikamica starts today in the Suva Magistrates Court.

Senior Counsel assisting the Commission of Inquiry, Janet Mason, will take the stand as the first prosecution witness for the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption

Kamikamica faces one count of Perjury where it is alleged that between 1st December 2024 and 31st March 2025, being lawfully sworn as a witness in a judicial proceeding namely a Commission of Inquiry into the appointment of the FICAC Commissioner, willfully made a material statement on oath, that he had no knowledge of the appointment of the FICAC Commissioner prior to her appointment dated 5th September 2024.

Kamikamica is charged with an alternative count of False Information to A Public Servant, where it is alleged that between the 1st of December 2024 and 31st March 2025, being lawfully sworn in as a witness in a judicial proceeding namely a Commission of Inquiry into the appointment of the FICAC Commissioner, gave to the Commissioner of Inquiry, information he knew or believed to be false, namely that he had no knowledge of the appointment of the FICAC Commissioner prior to her appointment dated 5 September 2024.
