Former journalist Charlie Charters is a free man after the Suva High Court granted a permanent stay of proceedings in his case.

Judge, Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu delivers his ruling this morning.

Speaking to the media outside the courthouse, Charters’ lawyers, Juleen Fatiaki and Seforan Fatiaki, confirmed that he had been informed of the decision and was pleased with the outcome.

Charters had been charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) with two counts of aiding and abetting an unknown person.

The charges alleged that between 2 November and 14 December 2025, Charters intentionally aided and abetted a FICAC officer to unlawfully publish official information relating to the Commission’s functions by posting the material on his Facebook account, “Charlie Charters,” without the written permission of the Commissioner.

A second count alleged that on 2 February this year, Charters again aided and abetted a FICAC officer to commit the same offence by publishing official information on the same Facebook account.

The High Court’s ruling brings an end to the case against Charters.
