Fiji Bati coach Mick Potter is hopeful the Fainu brothers will be cleared to represent Fiji at the Rugby League World Cup, as officials work to finalize the necessary eligibility documentation.

Samuela, Sione and Latu Fainu are among several high-profile players Potter is eager to include in his World Cup squad as Fiji continues to build depth ahead of the tournament.

Potter is also keen to secure the services of former Wallabies winger Mark Nawaqanitawase, whose father, Sevuloni, moved from Fiji to Australia in 1991 to play for the Balmain Tigers.

The Bati have spent the past year introducing a new generation of talent through the Pacific Championships, with players such as Dolphins utility Kurt Donoghoe, Eels second-rower Kitione Kautoga, Sea Eagles forward Caleb Navale and Bulldogs winger Jethro Rinikama gaining valuable international experience.

Fiji’s player pool continues to grow, with Jahream Bula, Sunia Turuva, Api Koroisau and Solomone Lanyon also eligible for national selection.

If the Fainu brothers receive approval to represent Fiji, the Wests Tigers could have as many as seven players included in the Bati squad for the Rugby League World Cup, providing a significant boost to Potter’s plans.

The final decision on the trio’s eligibility is expected once the required documentation process is completed.
