Improved roads and stronger public infrastructure are among the key concerns raised by residents as Navua prepares for its transition into a town.

During a public consultation, residents questioned whether current roads and infrastructure would be able to support future development and a growing population.

Navua resident Kamal Narayan highlighted that addressing road issues now will help prepare the area for increased business activity and future growth.

“My road issues, looking at the farm roads will the government or the ministry upgrade those farm roads and the feeder roads, the gravel roads if they fall in the township area.”

He also raised concerns about road access for farmers and whether existing roads are suitable for the community’s needs.

“because of the roads in Navua are undesignated roads will that be covered in these roads maintenance, or no?” he said.

Fiji Roads Authority Representative Jone Turaga said road upgrades are already underway, with more improvements planned to support access around the Navua business district.

“In regard to the road upgrades, we have started some works, and we are looking at improving access to the CBD.”

Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Local Government Seema Sharma informed residents that once Navua becomes a town, residents will have a local council to help address community concerns and plan future developments.

“With Navua being a town, there will be a local council that will look after the infrastructure purpose.”

As Navua prepares for town status, residents hope improved roads and infrastructure will create a stronger foundation for future growth.
