More than 400 people in Lomaloma, Vanua Balavu now have improved access to clean and reliable water following the commissioning of two new borehole water supply projects.

Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Filimoni Vosarogo said the projects will strengthen water security for schools, healthcare services, government offices and nearby communities while improving everyday living conditions.

The Adi Maopa Borehole Project will provide a stable water supply to Adi Maopa District School, Adi Maopa Secondary School, Lomaloma Government Station and Lomaloma Hospital, directly benefiting more than 346 students, teachers, staff, patients and government employees.

A second borehole project will supply clean groundwater to 49 households in the villages of Narocivo and Namalata, helping improve household water access and increasing resilience during droughts and other climate-related events.

The Government invested a total of $330,000 in the two projects, with $180,000 allocated to the Adi Maopa School Borehole Project and $150,000 for the Narocivo and Namalata Village Borehole Project.

Minister Vosarogo said the projects represent an investment in the wellbeing and future of communities by improving public health, supporting education and healthcare, and contributing to sustainable access to safe water. He also acknowledged the Mineral Resources Department, school management, community leaders and residents whose support helped deliver the projects.
