The Fiji Police Force has thrown its support behind a proposal by the Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma to establish an integrated youth boot camp under the Solesolevaki arrangement.

The proposal was presented to Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu and senior police officials at the Fiji Police Headquarters by Methodist Church General Secretary Rev. Dr. Jolami Lasawa and Youth Department Secretary Rev. Viliame Tunidau.

The proposed camp will target young people aged 15 to 35 and focus on strengthening spiritual development, discipline, leadership and life skills to help prepare them for productive futures.

Rev. Dr. Lasawa said the church is committed to addressing social issues linked to behavioural challenges affecting families and communities. He said the initiative aims to encourage positive behavioural change through a holistic programme involving key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs, the Republic of Fiji Military Force and the Fiji Police Force.

Commissioner Tudravu welcomed the proposal, saying the Fiji Police Force is ready to support initiatives that provide young people with structure and purpose.

He added that faith-based organisations play an important role in crime prevention and confirmed the force’s support for the inaugural youth boot camp, which is expected to be held later this year.
