A husband’s support can make a significant difference in unlocking a woman’s potential.

This is the message from Edward Nicholas, who supported his wife, Silomeci Rokube, through a three-day training programme focused on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

Nicholas believes women should be empowered to pursue their dreams and develop their talents rather than being confined only to household responsibilities.

He says husbands should see their wives as equal partners by encouraging them to gain skills, become financially independent, and pursue opportunities to build businesses of their own.

Nicholas says women are not meant to be “slaves of the house” but have valuable skills and abilities that should be recognised and nurtured.

His words reflect the journey he and his wife have taken together.

After working for three years, Rokube left her job following the birth of their fourth child. After a decade without a stable source of income, the couple decided it was time to turn their dream of owning a business into reality.

Together, they plan to expand their business into pastries, food and beverages, barbecue, and traditional arts and crafts, believing their combined skills and determination will help them succeed.

Rokube says many women are unaware of the training and support available to help them start businesses and improve their livelihoods.

She is encouraging women to seek out these opportunities, gain new skills, and invest in a better future for themselves and their families.
