Global Costs Push Up LPG Prices

Liquefied petroleum gas prices in Fiji are largely determined by movements in international markets, with global benchmark prices, exchange rates and shipping costs factored into the local pricing formula.

The Fiji Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) reviews international butane contract prices, freight charges and exchange rate movements each month to ensure LPG prices reflect actual import costs under the approved pricing methodology.

The latest increase in LPG prices has been driven by a rise in the international Butane Contract Price and movements in the exchange rate.

While freight costs remained unchanged, the increase in the international butane price, together with the stronger exchange rate, outweighed the impact of stable freight charges.

This has resulted in higher prices for LPG cylinders, bulk LPG and autogas in Fiji.
