Meanwhile, Fijiana captain Kolora Lomani identifies defensive lapses and poor ball retention as the areas that cost the side in their opening Test loss to the Springbok Women.

She says the team must improve its defensive connection and be more clinical with possession ahead of the second Test.

“We have to just, you know, connect in our defense. I think it was just the defense that really let us down. But otherwise, yeah, it was just our attack was a bit there, but we just gave the ball back to them a bit easier. But yeah, it was just our defense that really let us down into that game.”

Springbok Women captain Libbie Janse van Rensburg believes her side capitalised on the momentum from the opening match, but also acknowledges that there is still room for improvement around the breakdown.

“It’s such a big result, but we take it as soon as we knew that momentum was going to be on our side. We have to get the job done, keep the pedal on the metal, like they say. So I think our team executed that very well. There are some takeaway points for us. We can still do better around our racks, but happy with the win.”
