Opposition Leader Inia Seruiratu says the High Court’s decision to declare the Commission of Inquiry report into the appointment of former FICAC Commissioner Barbara Malimali null and void is unfortunate and has come at a significant cost to taxpayers.
Seruiratu describes the situation as very irresponsible, unfortunate and very costly, saying such a blunder at that level should not be accepted.
The High Court ruled last Friday that the COI report was tainted by bias and breached the rules of natural justice, and quashed its recommendations.
Seruiratu says the outcome raises serious questions about the quality of advice provided to Government.
He says the issue is also a matter of good governance, particularly accountability and respect for the rule of law.
