Construction is progressing on a 500-metre road link connecting Extension Street to Brown Street in Suva, which is expected to provide motorists with an additional route and improve traffic flow in the capital.
The project includes new road construction, drainage works, pavement improvements, traffic management measures and other associated works.
Once completed, the road link is expected to ease congestion along Extension Road, which provides access to Colonial War Memorial Hospital and other essential medical services.
It will also improve access for emergency vehicles, particularly during peak hours, while strengthening connections between nearby communities and commercial areas.
The project forms part of ongoing efforts to upgrade Fiji’s transport infrastructure and support Suva’s urban development and economic activity.
The road project was officially launched in July by the Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, who highlighted the importance of infrastructure investment in building climate resilience and meeting the country’s growing transport needs.
