ZEG Boxing Promotion is looking to open international pathways for local boxers, with this weekend’s fight card bringing together some of the region’s and international boxing talents.
The event will feature four major title bouts, giving Fijian fighters an opportunity to showcase their abilities against overseas opponents.
ZEG Boxing Promoter Alfaaz Mallam says building strong relationships with international promoters is important in creating opportunities for local fighters to compete on bigger stages.
“The relationship we build with our international promoters and boxing teams matter so much to us. We want to partner with people who share that vision, people who can help create a pathway from competing here in Fiji to opportunities on bigger stages overseas.”
Meanwhile, WABA Supervisor Chauncy Welliver has revealed that American boxing representatives will be watching the fighters, encouraging them to deliver performances that could open doors to opportunities in the United States.
“One thing I can tell the fighters and the press is, there are American eyes on you guys and to prove I, we’re here. So, go out there and fight for your lives because we’ve got airplane tickets we want to book to America that have your names on it.”
Fiji Boxing Commission Vice Chairman Pranil Goundar confirmed the card will include the Fiji Super Middleweight title fight between defending champion Isikeli Senidoko and Winston Hill, alongside three WABA championship bouts.
“We will have the Fiji Super Middleweight Title with defending champion Isikeli Senidoko take on challenger Winston Hill. We will also witness three major WABA title fights including the WABA Female Light Flyweight Championship between India’s Aarti Hooda and Fiji’s Laite Nanovu.
The WABA Welterweight championship between Fiji’s Ratu Rakuro and India’s Ankit Kumar and the prestigious WABA Supreme Middleweight Championship featuring USA’s Anthony Welsh and John Lewis.”
The promotion will take place this Saturday, the 7th of November, at the Vodafone Arena in Suva, with gates opening at 3pm, providing local boxers with a platform to showcase their talent and pursue international opportunities.
