Earth day is celebrated every year on 22 April. Founder of the Pacific Recycling Foundation, Amitesh Deo, is urging political leaders, especially those in Fiji’s coalition government, to unite for Earth Day.
He emphasises the importance of setting aside differences to preserve the environment and ensure the well-being of Fiji’s people.
Deo highlighted the need for global unity to take meaningful actions to protect the Earth, stressing that political stability is important for achieving environmental justice.
“If there’s no political stability and political justice, the environmental justice that we’re advocating for will never be achieved,” he said.
He added that the Foundation continues to change mindsets and behaviour toward best practices and that it needs the same level of commitment from the Government, private sector and development partners.
He further stressed that “It is our plea to work together for a common good – managing waste and keeping our environment clean.”
