Fiji and the United Kingdom (UK) have taken another significant step in their diplomatic cooperation, advancing to phase three of their strategic communications partnership.
This milestone was marked during a recent meeting between Deputy British High Commissioner, Nicola Noble, UK Government Communications Service representatives, and the new Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Raijeli Taga.
The discussions focused on expanding the collaboration to tackle the shared challenges both nations face in the rapidly evolving public communication landscape.
This partnership, which builds on the strong bilateral relationship between Fiji and the UK, reflects both countries’ deep historical and cultural ties.
Dr. Taga welcomed the UK delegation, including communications experts from London, and expressed gratitude for their unwavering support.
She acknowledged the progress made in previous phases and emphasized the importance of continuing to build Fiji’s communications capacity.
“We are committed to strengthening our engagement through initiatives that will further enhance our bilateral relations,” Dr. Taga said.
The third phase of the partnership will focus on capacity building and professional development, helping Fiji’s communications systems become more resilient in a rapidly changing world.
Key areas of focus include frameworks like the UK’s RESIST model, aimed at equipping governments to counter disinformation effectively.
This partnership underscores the shared commitment of both governments to collaborate for mutual benefit, as outlined in Fiji’s Foreign Policy White Paper, launched in September 2024.
